City of Aurora, Colorado – City Council Member, 2005-2009.

Represented a district of 53,000 people in Aurora, Colorado, a home rule city of 312,000 (58th largest in U.S.) in the Denver metropolitan area with 3,000 city employees and an annual budget over $600 million. During my four year term, chaired the council committees on Planning & Development, Operations, Water, and Code Enforcement; also served on Management & Finance and Community Partnership committees. Served as the city’s representative on the boards of the Denver Regional Council of Governments and the Aurora Economic Development Council. Served on the Information Technology & Communications policy steering committee of the National League of Cities. Founded the Aurora Scholars Awards, a city-wide student recognition program, and the Citizens’ Planning Academy, an annual eight-week course to engage community leaders in the city’s planning and development practices. Before election to the City Council, served on Aurora’s Planning & Zoning Commission and Citizens’ Water Advisory Committee.

Regulatory affairs specialist. Obtained federal permits for microwave transport sites and FAA clearances for new cell towers in Colorado, Wyoming and Montana.
